One Cup, Or Two? The Convenience Of A Single Cup Coffee Maker
I'm the only one in my family who drinks coffee, so having a one cup coffee maker just makes sense. I still have my 10 cup coffee maker, which I use on weekends when I can sit and enjoy several cups. But, during the week with running around in the morning and trying to get myself and the kids ready I don't have time for more than one cup. That's where the one cup coffee maker comes in so handy. My sister-in-law was the one who first told me about them. She received one from her husband one Christmas. It was a Black and Decker Cup-at-a-Time Personal Coffeemaker. She loved it. The only thing she said that she'd change is that they'd have one that brewed with a go-cup. She easily fixed that by finding her own stainless steel go-cup and brewing the coffee directly into it. Black and Decker does offer two one cup coffee makers that brew into stainless steel mugs, the Brew N'Go Delux personal Coffeemaker and the Brew N' Go Delux. The two Brew N' Go coffee makers will brew 15 oz of coffee. The Cup-at-a Time will brew up to 12 oz. These coffee makers run between $17 and $24 and each come with a permanent filter.
Another great one cup coffee maker is the Tassimo Hot Beverage System. This Tassimo is quite a bit costlier than the Black and Decker models at $170 but it has a lot more functions. This Tassimo Hot Beverage System not only makes one cup of coffee it makes espresso, milk based lattes, cappuccinos, tea and hot chocolate. Tassimo has developed coffee, tea, chocolate and concentrated milk discs that are specific to it's one cup coffee maker. Each of these discs has a barcode, which is read by the machine. This barcode tells the machine exactly how much water to use, how long to brew and at what temperature so that every cup is perfectly brewed. Tassimo has paired with coffee makes like Gevalia Kaffe, Seattle's Best, Maxwell House, Mastro Lorenzo, Kenoco, Carte Noire and Nabob to manufacture discs. Brilliant. A perfect one cup coffee maker for the coffee lover who has everything.
The Norelco Senseo also has a selection of one cup coffee makers. Two of these are called Senseo Delux Single Serve Gourmet Coffee maker and Senseo Supreme. Both of these models brew cappuccino and tea as well as coffee. They also use coffee pods. Either of these systems will run you about $100.
Keurig is another popular brand of one cup coffee makers. The Keurig B40 Elite Brewer holds 48 ounces of water or six brewed servings. The water initially heats within three minutes and it takes 15 seconds to reheat between cups. Like Tassimo, Keurig has partnered with several different coffee companies to produce what are called K-Cups. Some of them are Green Mountain, Timothy's, Gloria Jean's, Coffee People, and Diedrich just to mention a few. For a smaller less expensive Keurig look their Single Cup Brewer Coffee Machine B60. No frills, just a one cup coffee maker that runs about $150. Not to be overlooked are the one cup coffee makers offered from Hamilton Beach that range from $25 to $80, The Melitta which runs about $60, The Target Toastess from Target runs $15. The Gevalia Coffee for One Personal Coffeemaker runs $20. As you can see there are many choices when it comes to one cup coffee makers.
